Impersonation Scam: Fake Websites Are Copying Messengers of Lourdes

If you have been affected, we are truly sorry. You came to this Shrine in faith, and someone took advantage of that. This page explains exactly how to make sure you are dealing with us, and what to do if you have already paid one of these fake sites.

Before you enter any payment details, look at the web address bar at the top of your browser. If it does not say lourdes-shrine.org, you are not on our website and we cannot deliver or refund that order. Fraudsters use addresses that look almost right, for example a different word order, an added or missing hyphen, an extra word, or a different ending such as .com, .net, .shop or .store.

How To Confirm You Are Dealing With Us

• The web address begins with https://lourdes-shrine.org
• Posting a prayer at the Shrine is free. We never ask for a payment before accepting your prayer.
• Our emails always come from an address ending in @lourdes-shrine.org
• Payments for our paid products are processed by Stripe, and your order confirmation arrives by email.
• Our support team answers at support@lourdes-shrine.org, usually within 24 hours.

Warning Signs Of A Fake Copy Of Our Site

• The page looks exactly like ours, but the web address is different.
• You are asked to pay by bank transfer, gift card, cryptocurrency, or a money transfer app. We never ask for payment in any of these ways.
• You are asked for a payment to "unlock", "bless", "activate" or "prioritise" a prayer.
• There is pressure to act immediately, or a countdown timer on a donation or offering.
• The contact address is a free mailbox such as Gmail, Yahoo or Outlook instead of @lourdes-shrine.org.
• There is no company name, no registered address and no working support contact anywhere on the site.
• After paying, nothing is delivered and the seller stops replying.

If You Have Already Paid A Fake Site

Please act quickly. The sooner you contact your bank, the better your chance of recovering the money.

1. Contact your bank or card issuer now and ask to dispute the payment as "goods or services not received". If you paid through PayPal or a similar service, open a dispute in that account.
2. Keep your evidence. Save the exact web address you ordered from, your receipt or bank statement line, any emails, and screenshots of the page.
3. Do not send any further payment, including any "fee" a seller asks for to release or refund your order. That is part of the same scam.
4. Change your password if you reused an existing password on the fake site.
5. Report it to the authorities in your country. In the United States, report to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov and to reportfraud.ftc.gov. In the United Kingdom, report to Action Fraud at actionfraud.police.uk. Elsewhere, report to your national consumer protection or cybercrime agency.
6. Tell us. Send the web address and your evidence to support@lourdes-shrine.org so we can pursue removal of the fake site.
