Pride has two faces. It can be like a lion. “Look at me. I am so wonderful.” Or, pride can be like an ostrich. You can be so concerned about people focusing on you that you get caught up in yourself and want to bury your head in the sand. Believe it or not, both scenarios are prideful for the stand in the way of you serving Me.
Perhaps you have been gifted with the voice of an angel. You sing before the church and are conceited because you know how good you are. That is pride. Or, maybe you have been gifted with a gorgeous voice and refuse to sing unto Me because you are too timid, too self-conscious. That is pride as well.
If you will humble yourself unto me, I will give you humility. I will give you courage as well. Stick with me and I will supply your needs and will keep you just.
The Lord Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all that is exalted (and they will be humbled).
— Isaiah 2:12
Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.
— Proverbs 16:18
