It’s a tall order! But know that I would not ask this from you if I was not ready and able to help you accomplish the feat. Practicing self-control is putting into play those things which I have taught you.
Like a coach trains his team, it is up to each of the athletes to implement the instructions. Through My Word, I am training you to be self-disciplined which is what happens when you take it upon yourself to carry out my instructions, pursuing what is good and righteous, no matter what. Just as self-discipline helps an athlete win, it will help you win as well.
When you feel like you are going to cave in to evil, keep your eyes on the prize and practice self-control. It’s a game changer!
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
— 2 Timothy 1:7
Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
— 1 Corinthians 9:25
