I came to proclaim the Year of Jubilee.

I fulfilled the favorable Year of the Lord, The Year of Jubilee. Jubilee is from the Hebrew word for ram or ram's horn. My people waited 49 years and on the 50th year was the Year of Jubilee. It was announced by the sound of a ram's horn. It sounded everywhere.

This was a time when debts were cancelled, slaves and servants were liberated, and land returned to original family owners. The Lord sent Me to proclaim the Year of the Lord's favor. I came to proclaim good news to the poor. I came to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and set the captives free.

I came to make the blind see. I came to set the oppressed free. In Nazareth, where I was brought up I read out of Isaiah 61 on the Sabbath to the synagogue. That day this scripture was fulfilled in their hearing.

He went to Nazareth, where He had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day He went into the synagogue, as was His custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. Unrolling it, He found the place where it is written: “The Spirit of the Lord is on Me,because He has anointed Me to proclaim good news to the poor.He has sent Me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind,to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Then He rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on Him. He began by saying to them,“Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

— Luke 4:16-21

The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the Year of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn.

— Isaiah 61:1-2

Count off seven Sabbath years-seven times seven years-so that the seven Sabbath years amount to a period of forty-nine years.

— Leviticus 25:8
