There are those who let go of My commands and hold on to teachings that people have made up. They ignore My commands and follow their own ways. They don't respect their parents or their elders. My commandments tell you to honor your father and mother.
If you do this you will live a long time in the land I am giving you. Things will go well with you. I want you to respect me in your heart. I give you My commands, rules, and laws so that things will go well for you and your children if you obey.
Teach people to obey them also. Be careful to do what is right. Don't turn away from what is right. Do exactly as I tell you and you will enjoy life.
Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
