Sometimes you feel all alone. You can be in a room full of people and still feel like no one cares. The problems you deal with make you feel like you have no one to turn to. I want you to know I am the God who sees you. I hear your suffering.
Abraham’s wife, Sarah, couldn’t have any children. She asked him to sleep with her slave Hagar so they could have a child. Hagar became pregnant. After Ishmael was born, Sarah was upset and wanted Abraham to get rid of Hagar and Ishmael. He sent them away into the desert.
Hagar feared they would die but I heard her and Ishmael’s cries. I provided a well of water and I stayed with them as Ishmael grew up. Just as I saw them, I see you. I care about what happens to you.
She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees Me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees Me.”
— Genesis 16:13
God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying as he lies there. Lift the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation.” Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. So she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink. God was with the boy as he grew up. He lived in the desert and became an archer.
