5 Astonishing Cures That Will Make You Believe in the Miracle of Lourdes

Lourdes was an inconspicuous little town in France until Bernadette Soubirous started having visions of the Virgin Mary in 1858. Thanks to the visions, Bernadette uncovered a hidden spring in the Grotto of Massabielle. Soon after its discovery it was found that the water from the spring had healing properties.

Now, you may be a bit skeptical, and we understand that, but over 7000 unexplained healings have occurred at Lourdes and 70 of these have been declared official miracles. Like most people, we were also a bit skeptical about how water could heal so miraculously in the beginning, but after doing research it’s difficult to believe that there isn’t something special about the water at the Lourdes shrine.

So we’ve compiled a list of the miracles we think are the most amazing. They convinced us that the healing waters of Lourdes truly is Holy.

Nerve Damage That Has Been Cured

There are three amazing cures in this category. The first one was also the first healing that ever occurred at Lourdes and put it on the map. This was the remobilization of Catherine Latapie’s paralyzed fingers. She fell out of a tree and injured some critical nerves in her shoulder, leaving her fingers paralyzed.

After she went to Lourdes in 1858, following an inner calling to go there to get healed, the nerve damage was miraculously cured and she could move her hand. She was the first person to ever report the healing powers of the water at Lourdes.

The second amazing nerve cure that took place at Lourdes was that of Jean-Pierre Bely. He had multiple sclerosis, a degenerative nerve disease that paralyzed him. The people that accompanied him on his pilgrimage in 1987 didn’t think he’d live to see the end of the trip, but he walked away a healed man. The water at Lourdes did something science hasn’t been able to accomplish to this very day.

The third amazing cure relating to neurological disorders actually consists of more than one case. A number of people have gone to Lourdes with eye problems, among other things. These include Louis Bouriette (1858), Francis Pascal (1938) and Marie Biggot (1953) to name but a few. It seems the Lourdes shrine has a knack for curing the blind.

Incurable Cancer Disappears

There have been many cases of people getting cancer that has progressed to such a degree that it is said to be incurable. While this may indeed be the case for most modern medicine, it seems that the healing waters at Lourdes can do what science can’t. There have been multiple miraculous healings at Lourdes, where cancer that was thought to be in its last stages, started going into remission or just disappeared completely.

The most notable of these is Rose Martin, who had cancer of the uterus which kept spreading even after surgery. After her pilgrimage to Lourdes in 1947, during which she had to be anesthetized with morphine, the cancer miraculously disappeared.

Sarcoma is a malignant tumour that involves bones and connective tissue. Lourdes water has been able to cure this debilitating, painful and often fatal cancer as well. Two of these miraculous cures that stand out are Delizia Cirolli and Vittorio Michelli. Both these pilgrims went into remission and were completely cured of their affliction after visiting Lourdes.
